    James Black

    Drafted in 1989 by Hartford Whalers, then played on the Minnesota North Stars. They moved to Dallas. Also played in Buffalo, Chicago, Washington. In total played 16 years pro 9 in the NHL some in the minors and finished up in Europe. Won a Spengler Cup while playing in Europe for team Canada.

    I have been a Strength & Conditioning Coach training elite athletes for 12 years.  With a focus on training Elite Hockey Players.
    I have been working as Medical Exercise Specialist, helping people recover from injury, surgery and illness for 7 years.

    EXPERIENCE:
    During the past 12 years I have worked at Grant MacEwan Collage as a Strength & Conditioning Coach/ Fitness Consultant. I have gained valuable experience working with a wide variety of clientele from elite athletes to clients with disabilities.
    About 9 years ago I created my own company Premier Strength & Conditioning Inc. www.premierstrength.com.  The focus of this company is on providing training programs for professional and elite hockey players.
    I am a Strength & Conditioning Consultant with Hockey Canada (National Women’s Program)
    I was Strength & Conditioning Coach for the Chilliwack Bruins for 3 years.

    WHO / WHAT IS YOUR SPECIALTY:
    My ideal client would be someone who has set goals for themselves and are driven to meet those goals.
    Elite Athletes - I specialize in training elite level athletes.  Particularly those who participate in speed and power sports such as hockey, football, volleyball etc,
    Post-Rehab - I specialize in working with adults who are recovering from an injury / accident.
    Fitness Testing – I specialize in administering a variety of reliable and accurate fitness tests/assessments.  Measuring body composition, aerobic fitness, strength, speed, agility, functional movement etc.
    I have had the privilege of training many professional/Armature athletes.

    Sport Psychologist and Registered Provisional Psychologist

    Nicolas Allen MA, BPE

    Nicolas is a Provisional Registered Psychologist (#734p) and Sport Psychologist with River Valley Counseling Services, the counseling arm of River Valley Health Sports Therapy and Injury Rehabilitation. His areas of special interest and expertise include, Sport and Exercise Psychology, Eating Disorders, Chronic Pain, and Depression.

    In addition to counseling, Nic has over a decade of athletic coaching and training experience and was a five-time member of the Canadian National Fencing Team. During his athletic career, Nic competed internationally at events including the World Fencing Championships, World University Games, and the Jr. Pan-American Fencing Championships.

    With a Bachelor's degree in Physical Education majoring in Sport Psychology, followed by a Master's Degree in Counseling Psychology from City University of Seattle, Nic has worked with athletes of all levels, including professional and amateur athletes. 

     Nicolas' energy and enthusiasm for sport and fitness are contagious, and his fun, integrated and positive approach to counseling and rehabilitation ensures our clients are motivated and encouraged to achieve their goals.

    Making Stridz Athlete Development is a sports consulting business which is dedicated to the growth and development of athletes of all ages and skill levels. Through the use of Dartfish Video Analysis Software athletes are able to use visual feedback as a method of improving their technique. Making Stridz Athlete Development is a strong believer of the importance of sport science and specifically Biomechanics on athlete development and performance improvement.

    Making Stridz Athlete Development was founded by Brian Shackel. Brian is a graduate from the University of Manitoba with a Masters Degree in Sports Biomechanics and a Bachelors Degree in Exercise and Sports Science. He has been working in the field of Sports Biomechanics for five years as a research assistant at the University of Manitoba and with Making Stridz Athlete Development. His area of expertise is on the mechanics of skating, but he has worked with athletes of all ages and skill levels in over 30 different sports skills.  Brian’s own sports background includes participating at the provincial level in hockey, baseball, golf and curling.  He has worked with athletes at both the grassroots level and the elite level and feels that all athletes can benefit from video analysis.

    Brian was born and raised on a farm in southern Manitoba. He takes pride on the importance of hard work and determination in reaching your goals. As a small business owner, he is dedicated to providing quality feedback to athletes and coaches in order to improve their athletic development and help athletes reach their goals, no matter how small or big these goals might be.

    Dave Rathjen

    Dave grew up playing AAA hockey in Penticton , B.C. before going on to a successful junior career playing for the Penticton Panthers (BCHL), the Vernon Vipers (BCHL), and TriCity Americans (WHL). After junior, he attended the University of Alberta and played for the Golden Bears Hockey Program winning the national university championships in 2005. In 2005-2006, he signed a professional contract with the United Hockey League's Muskegon Fury and attended their training and exhibition camp. Dave has been instructing goalies for the past 13 years and has gained experience as the Head Goaltending Instructor for the Okanagan Hockey School, the University of Alberta Golden Bears Goalie School, and Edmonton Oilers Hockey School. Dave also runs goalie development camps, coaching clinics, and various evaluations for Hockey Alberta. Dave currently is the goalie coach for the Drumheller Dragons of the AJHL.

    Jamie McCaig

    Jamie grew up playing AAA hockey in Prince George , B.C. before going on to a successful junior hockey career with the Prince George Spruce Kings (BCHL), Regina Pats (WHL), Penticton Panthers (BCHL) and the Merritt Centennials (BCHL). After concluding his junior career, Jamie went on to play for Brandon University Bobcats (CIS) and the University of Lethbridge Pronghorns (CIS). After completing his Bachelor of Arts Degree at the University of Lethbridge, Jamie went on to play for the Anchorage Aces (WCHL), Victoria Salmon Kings (ECHL) and the Bakersfield Condors (ECHL). Jamie has been instructing goaltenders for the past 10 years where he worked for the Goaltender Development Institute, OHS Hockey Schools and the University of Lethbridge Hockey School. Recently, Jamie was hired to be the goalie coach for the Chinese Women's National Ice Hockey Team. Jamie helped the team qualify for the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver. Jamie has been working with the Grande Prairie Storm (AJHL) for the past 2 seasons where last season they won the 2009 AJHL league championship

    Jesse Kallechy

    Jesse grew up in Sherwood Park , AB where he played for the Kings Athletic Club all the way through Midget AAA. Jesse has followed up his successful minor hockey career with an impressive start into the junior hockey world. Jesse played for the Sherwood Park Crusaders (AJHL), Spruce Grove Saints (AJHL) and the Golden Rockets (KIJHL) in 2008-2009, Jesse was a unanimous all star selection while playing for Golden. In 2009-10 Jesse suited up for the Ft McMurray Oil Barons (AJHL). Jesse took the Oil Barons all the way to Game 7 of the League Championship series, along the way he was a finalist for goalie of the year, named to the All Rookie team, he was voted as an alternate all star selection as well as finishing in the top 5 for all statistical categories in the regular season. Jesse has been working for ATC Goaltending for the past 3 years; his superior technical skills allow him to be a great full gear demo goalie at all our summer camps.
